We started Unit43 in 2018 with a motto: Find and Refine. Find the best ingredients. Refine them into something worth drinking.

Everything else followed from that, including Sylvia, our one-of-a-kind copper still built entirely from reclaimed materials, named after the mothers who raised us. We make gin, rum and brandy in small batches at our distillery in Ndabeni, Cape Town. We've won 21 international awards, including Best Gin in Africa three years running - The Gin Guide UK.
OH... AND WHY 43?
Besides all the stars being aligned when we launched, Jason was 43, all our spirits are bottled at 43% alcohol, and our first factory was number 43. But more importantly, according to the supercomputer Deep Thought in Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (one of Jason's all-time favourite books) the answer to the question of life, the universe, and everything is 42.
So he decided we are one better than everything else.
It turns out, though, that 42, the answer to life and everything else... is actually 42.51. Which, rounded up, is 43.

CRAFTMEN
Taking something at its base form and refining it into something amazing is what the UNIT43 Distillers do. Their one of a kind still named Sylvia, after Jason’s late mom and Bruno’s Grandmother, was made completely from recycled materials which they found in scrap yards all around South Africa.

We all love to EXPLORE. We do it in different ways. Sometimes on the road and sometimes with FLAVOURS or products. Always exciting in anticipation of the next DESTINATION.
MAKERS
TANKS, tables, shelving, BARRELS, picture frames, and hydraulic lifters all destined to be scrapped and destroyed have been brought BACK TO LIFE, true to the brand’s motto of ‘Find and Refine’.
