If you've never done a gin tasting before or you've done a few and want to find the best one in Cape Town this post is for you. We're Unit43 Distilling Co., based in Ndabeni, Cape Town, and we've been hosting gin tastings and experiences for groups of all shapes and sizes for years. Here's what you can actually expect when you visit us.
You'll taste gin that's won 18 international gold medals
We're not a hobby distillery. Unit43 has been voted Best Gin in Africa by The Gin Guide UK three years in a row, and our spirits have collected 18 international gold medals from competitions in the UK, USA, Hong Kong and Europe. When you come for a tasting, you're tasting something that's genuinely world-class, made right here in Cape Town with wild Cape Fynbos and 16 hand-selected botanicals, copper distilled in small batches.
It's guided, not a self-serve bar
Tastings are led personally by the owners or one of our amazing team. That means you actually learn something about the botanicals we use, how we distil, what makes each expression different. Guests consistently tell us that this is what sets us apart: you leave knowing more than when you arrived, and that makes each sip more interesting. You leave feeling like family.
The food is genuinely good
We offer gourmet grazing boards and sharing platters that are designed to pair with the spirits, not just fill a table. Curated cheese and charcuterie, thoughtfully matched to complement the botanicals in our gin. Add a cocktail or two and you've got yourself a proper afternoon or evening out.
It works for almost any group
We host everything from first dates to corporate team-building days, hen parties to tour groups looking for something different. Our distillery in Ndabeni seats up to 48 for private functions and up to 70 for cocktail-style events. The space is relaxed, comfortable, and genuinely interesting, you're inside a working distillery, surrounded by stills and barrels and the faint smell of botanical magic.
The gin making experience is next level
If a tasting isn't enough, our Gin Making Experience takes it further. You'll work with Jason to craft, distil, bottle, and label your own gin to take home. It's hands-on, creative, and unlike anything else you'll find in Cape Town. Available for groups of 8–24 people.
How to book
We're open every Wednesday from 12:30–16:00 for booked tastings and light lunches. Great for a Wednesday business lunch with a difference.
